West Side, as a body of believers, began as ‘the Virginia Avenue Baptist Mission’ back in 1964. It was originally a “mission point” sponsored by Harrisonburg Baptist Church in order to create a ‘Baptist presence’ on the west side of Harrisonburg. In 1970, the “mission” was officially constituted as ‘West Side Baptist Church’ with 58 charter members. Like most churches, the buildings, ministries, and faces have changed over the last fifty years, but the heart of the “mission” is still intact. Like most people, we have had “ups and downs”, “victories” and minor “defeats”, but we still strive to “share the unchanging message of Christ with an ever- changing world”. We invite you to “roll up your sleeves” and join us in these endeavors!
